みなさん、こんにちは。

夏も来ましたし、近頃バーベキューが大人気のようですので、バーベキューに纏わるとてもおもしろい表現をおおしえします！

ビジネスシーンでも使えますよ。

なにかの局面で、他者に対して「自分は経験がある」ということを伝えたいとき、

“It’s not my first barbecue” (直訳：これは私にとって初めてのバーベキューではありません。)

と言うと、以前にも同じような状況で対応したことがあり、何をすれば良いかわかっている、という意味になります。

例）

Jaimie: Tim, please be careful, these guys are sharks!
(ジェイミー：ティム、気を付けて。そいつらはサメだ！)

Tim: Don’t worry Jaimie, that’s not my first barbecue you know, I’ll be totally fine.
(ティム：心配するな、ジェイミー。これは初めてじゃないから全く問題ないよ。)

Jaimie: Oh Tim, you are so great! You’re amazing!!
(ジェイミー：あぁ、ティム。君はなんてすごいんだ！すばらしいよ！)

I think since it’s summer and barbecues are all the rage these days, I can teach you a very interesting idiom related to barbecues that we can use in business situations too.

When you would like to convey to someone that you are experienced in a certain situation, you can use the expression “It’s not my first barbecue”. This means that you have dealt with similar situations before and know what to do.

Ex:

Jaimie: Tim, please be careful, these guys are sharks!

Tim: Don’t worry Jaimie, that’s not my first barbecue you know, I’ll be totally fine.

Jaimie: Oh Tim, you are so great! You’re amazing!!

Tim: Ok, ok Jaimie, back to work young man.
