スピーキングにも効果的！「ライティング」の始めかた【英語学習アドバイス】
1. ライティングの始め方
みなさん、こんにちは。
最近わたしは、プライベートレッスンの生徒さんに、ライティングの宿題をよく出していて、それはとても効果的だと感じています。
過去にライティングに反対したことはありませんが、ケンジントン英会話のレッスンでは、スピーキングに主に焦点をあてています。
スピーキングはほとんどの日本人の英語学習者にとって最大のハードルであると思われるからです。
しかしながら、ライティングをすることも重要で、ライティングは全体的な英語能力だけでなく、スピーキングにも役立ちます。
なぜならライティングに必要なのは、「論理的に筋の通った文を作る」「文法とスペルに気を付ける」「意見と理由を書く」「幅広い語彙を使う」「内容をまとめる」などなどいろんな要素が必要だからです。
あなたがプライベートレッスンの生徒さんなら、もうすでに何らかの形でライティングをはじめるよう伝えているかもしれませんね。
グループレッスンの生徒さんで、ライティングを始めようかと思っている場合は、ご希望であれば追加でプライベートレッスンを受けることができます。

それまでの間、ライティングを始める方法をいくつかご紹介します。
今週のレッスンの教材(Flashcards)を見て、その中から1つ質問を選ぶ。
たとえば、今週のトピックは「Conditionals（条件文）」だったので、「What would you do if you were rich?」を選ぶことができます。アイディアを出す
数分かけてブレーンストーミングをしたり、アイデアを書き留めます。下書き
初級レベルの生徒さんの場合、最初は約50〜100語で問題ありません。
中・上級レベルの生徒さんの場合は上限はありません。確認
書いた文章の意味がわかるか、文法と時制が正しいか、スペルが間違っていないかを確認します。もう一度確認
同じことを頻繁に繰り返して書いていないか、適切に句読点を付けているか確認します。
必要な箇所があれば大文字にかえます。チェックを受ける
次回のレッスンでそれを持ってきて、講師からチェックを受けます。
もちろん、ライティングについてのアドバイスは他にもたくさんありますが、ここで伝えるのは簡単ではありません。

Write Write Write
Hello again everyone,
More and more I’m giving writing as extra homework for my private students and it is really paying off. Not that I’ve had anything against writing in the past but Kensington’s system focuses primarily on improving speaking skills since it seems to be most Japanese learner’s biggest “hurdle”.
The process of writing will also help with not just your overall English ability but also your speaking because it requires you to construct logical coherent sentences, focus on grammar and spelling, give opinion and reason, use a wide range of vocabulary, summarise, and much much more.
If you are a private student in the Nishijin school, the chances are I’ve already asked you to start doing some form of writing. If you are a group student and would like to get started please see me for more details in class and we can perhaps organise the occasional private lesson to get you started. In the meantime though here are some ways to get started.
Take a look at the lesson materials you studied this week and choose one question from it. For example, this week’s topic was conditionals so one question you could ask yourself is “What would you do if you were rich?”
Spend a few minutes brainstorming and writing down your ideas.
Write a first draft ( for low level students about 50 to 100 words is fine to start with, for higher level students, the sky's the limit)
Go back and check that your writing makes sense, grammar and tenses are correct, and check the spelling.
Look through it again and make sure that you aren’t repeating yourself to often, have punctuated things properly, added capitals where necessary.
Bring it to class and have the teacher check it.
Of course there is so much more writing advice to be given but it isn’t easy to convey in a single blog so if you get the chance, why not try a couple of private classes to get a better idea of what to do.
